Swachhta Campaign- 2 October, 2016
Swachhta Campaign on 2nd October 2016 began at 10 AM with Mahatma Gandhi Pratima Pujan by Director, NIASM. He administered the Swachhta Shapath to the Scientific, Technical and Farm Staff of the Institute. Dr. Jagdish Rane, Director (In charge), Principle Scientist and Head of Edaphic Stress Management, Dr. K K Krishnani and Dr. N P Kurhade, Principle Scientists addressed the staff on the importance of Swachhta and Swachhata Abhiyan. A meeting with Gram Sabha and Swachhta Campaign were organized at Malegaon Khurd in which villagers, Sarpanch, Up-Sarpanch, Gramsevak, staff of NIASM participated. Villagers addressed Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of Swachhta, activities undertaken on construction of Latrines, and total ban on open defecation in the village premises, collection and segregation of domestic waste using Ghantagadi. Director, NIASM emphasized on decentralized kitchen waste separation in biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, conversion of organic waste into compost and vermicomposting the waste for agricultural reuse. Interactive meeting with the scientist and villagers was held at Malegaon Khurd and problems and solution on keeping the village clean was discussed. The Gajargavat/Gajarghass (Parthenium grass) was identified as a major menace in the village. Eradication of gajargavat manually was done at the Gramdevta site for conducting the Navratrotsav programme. More than 150 people from NIASM staff and villagers from Malegaon Khurd participated in the Swachhata Abhiyan.
