Celebration of World Pulse Day: February 10, 2022
As part of the World Pulse Day celebration, on 9th February 2022, we have conducted a Quiz on Pulse Crops and about 30 Young Professionals/ SRF/Students participated in the Quiz. On 10th February 2022, a programme was organized at NIASM, Baramati. Dr Boraiah KM delivered a lecture on ‘Overview on pulse production in India’ and highlighted the historical background of World Pulse Day and also the challenges and opportunities for enhancing pulse production. Dr AK Singh in his lecture briefed about biotechnological interventions in pulse crops improvement. Dr N.S. Kute, Professor, MPKV, Rahuri delivered a lecture on the status of pulse crops in Maharashtra. He also explained the features of popular and newly developed varieties released for Maharashtra. Dr Aliza Pradhan delivered a lecture on ‘Advances in agronomy of pulses’ and highlighted the agronomic interventions to exploit the potential yield of pulse crop varieties. Dr Jagadish Rane shared important facts about pulses and their role in nutritional security. Dr H Pathak, Director, ICAR-NIASM in his concluding remarks emphasized the nutritional importance of pulses and also highlighted the strategies to enhance the productivity and nutritive value of pulse crops. Mr Ashok Taware, a progressive farmer shared his practical experience of pulse production and appreciated the efforts of NIASM towards pulse improvement. The programme was organized by Dr Boraiah KM, Dr Basavaraj PS, Dr Ravi Kumar Khure under the guidance of Dr Jagadish Rane.
