ICAR-NIASM Organizes Fish Training and Feed Distribution program in Kolhapur
ICAR-National Institute of Abiotic Stress Management (ICAR-NIASM), Baramati, organized a one-day fish training and outreach programme in Kolhapur under the Development Action Plan for Scheduled Castes (DAPSC) 2025–26. Titled "Modern Fisheries Management and Sustainable Aquaculture," the event aimed to empower 40 marginalized SC beneficiaries (05 Womens) by introducing modern fish farming practices.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Mukesh Bhendarkar, Scientist, ICAR-NIASM, and Mr. Satish Khade, Assistant Commissioner of Fisheries, who presided over the session. During the technical guidance segment, Dr. Bhendarkar detailed the institute’s ongoing research on the impacts of climate change on aquaculture and highlighted various opportunities available for fishers in Maharashtra. Mr. Satish Khade provided an in-depth overview of the "Mukhyamantri Matsya Sampada Yojana," explaining the administrative processes for subsidies and government support. A key highlight of the initiative was the Feed Distribution Programme, where fish feed was provided to selected Scheduled Caste beneficiaries to reduce their production costs and boost local livelihoods. By combining technical education with the distribution of essential inputs, ICAR-NIASM continues its commitment to the socio-economic upliftment of vulnerable communities through sustainable aquaculture.
